Some drivers in Ottawa behaving badly this long weekend

By Jenn Pritchard

Every long weekend, the local police will conduct a blitz looking for drivers committing the “fatal four” infractions.

– Impaired
– Aggressive
– Distracted
– Speeding

On Saturday, Constable Phil Kane took to social media to describe a potentially deadly incident.

On River Road, Kane spotted a loaded 18-wheeler transport truck travelling 100 km/hr in a 60 km/hr zone.

He noted that River Road is only two lanes and that it could have been a 'disaster.'

On Sunday, officers were out again keeping an eye out for misbehaving drivers.

Constable Jon Hall, otherwise known as The Bearded Cop, tweeted that in a two hour period officers laid 42 charges and impounded two vehicles.

The drivers that lost their vehicles were reportedly caught doing 115 & 116 in 60 km/hr zones. One in the Hunt Club/ Lorry Greenberg area, the other near Heron and Riverside.

These charges add up to one count every 2 minutes and 50 seconds.

Hall also made mention of a driver with a bit of road rage that caught his eye.

The police safety blitz will continue on the Civic Holiday on Monday.
