Suspect wanted in two Sparks Street robberies

By Mike Vlasveld

The Ottawa Police Service is working to track a man who it says jumped over the counter at a pair of Sparks Street banks, demanding cash.

Officers responded to a bank robbery in progress at 9 a.m. on Thursday, near Elgin Street.

The suspect had walked into the bank, jumped over the counter and demanded money from a clerk. He then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Just minutes later, police say another bank called 911 for a robbery in progress with the same suspect description. The suspect again jumped over the counter and demanded money, and again made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

He fled the area before officers arrived.

No one was injured in either incident.

The suspect is described as a white man, between 24 and 27-years-old, standing 5' 10″  or 5' 11″ (178-182 cm), with a thin build and short dark hair. He spoke English with no accent.
