Arnprior mayor could be reprimanded for pamphlet regarding systemic racism

By Mike Vlasveld

The mayor of Arnprior could face penalties for mailing out pamphlets, which stated his opinion about racism not being systemic in the town.

Arnprior's integrity commissioner has found Mayor Walter Stack violated two sections of the town's code of conduct by mailing the pamphlets.

The integrity commissioner determined that Mayor Stack contravened the town's code of conduct by making judgmental or critical comments about another member of council, and by not treating that councillor, and two other people he named, with dignity and understanding.

Recommendations have been made that the mayor be reprimanded for his actions, but Arnprior town council can also choose from other penalties that include docking the mayor's pay, removing him from town committees or requiring a public apology.
