Leeds, Grenville, Lanark’s top doctor encouraging outdoor activity ahead of Father’s Day weekend

With Father's Day right around the corner, the top doctor for Leeds, Grenville and Lanark is suggesting how to celebrate safely, while encouraging residents to get active outdoors.

Leeds, Grenville, and Lanark District Health Unit (LGLDHU) Medical Officer of Health Dr. Paula Stewart says there are currently fewer restrictions in place compared to Mother's Day and residents have been doing very well at following COVID guidelines in place.

She breaks down how people can gather safely for Father's Day weekend.

“Up to 10 people can get together outside, still keeping the two-metres apart, and be together,” Dr. Stewart told CityNews Ottawa. “I think that is the way we have to think — we bring the precautions that we are used to using into new settings so that we're safe.”

Dr. Stewart is also encouraging residents to get at least 150 minutes of outdoor exercise each week. She adds this can be done in chunks of 10 minutes at a time, and gardening does count.

“Please get outside, be physically active… go for walks, do gardening, do whatever you can to be physically active. We need it after being cooped up,” the doctor recommended.
