Senators’ dismal record no cause for panic…yet

Senators fans are hanging their heads in shame this morning.
It’s been a rough start to the season on the ice, with our team now sitting in last place in the NHL.
Six games in, the hockey guys are sporting a dismal one-and-five record which even has the GM tinkering with the on ice product.
However, hockey pundits say it may be a little early to panic.
“It’s really too early for local hockey fans to start running in the streets, speaking in tongues and tearing their hair out,” says Sportsnet’s Peter Gross. “That’s the appropriate behaviour if the Sens keep losing into, say, mid-November.”
Gross says part of resolving the team’s problems lies in identifying the main problems – and he says there are plenty of those.
“The offence is sputtering, the goaltending isn’t really working and the Senators are giving up almost the most shots on goal in the league,” he says. “If that doesn’t change dramatically…that’s one of those sentences you can finish yourself.”
Gross says the pressure now is on the veterans of the team because once players like Alfredsson, Gonchar, Kovalev, and Spezza start picking up their play, it will start to rub off on the younger guys.
GM Bryan Murray is talking about trades, but Gross says he should wait a few games and give this team another chance to get its act together.
