Children using breakfast programs on the rise

About 11-thousand students in Ottawa from 148 schools are relying on a breakfast program to have their first meal of the day.

The Manager of Education Initiatives at the Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation released the numbers, Sunday.

She told the Sun many parents are working two to three jobs just to make ends meet and that 60 per cent of the kids using the program are in elementary school.

According to the food bank, they have been seeing a rise in use for 2010.

On average there has been a 9 per cent month-over-month increase from last January to July.
