Ottawa Police remember Const. Erik Czapnik

The Ottawa Police held a private memorial Wednesday morning at the Elgin street station to remember Const. Eric Czapnik.
The impromtu memorial took place at 4:36 am, exactly one-year from Czapnik’s death.
Const. Czapnik was sitting in his cruiser at the Civic Campus of the Ottawa Hospital when he was stabbed in the neck by 43-year-old Kevin Gregson on December 29, 2009.
The disgruntled mountie was wrestled to the ground by paramedics who attempted to save the fallen constable.
Since his death, he has been commemorated at the new police station, and the Civic Campus of the Ottawa Hospital has installed a plaque in the emergency room. A scholarship fund has also been set up by the T.D bank in his name.
The parade room at the Tenth Line station has been named after Czapnik and his wife Anna who will receive a book that records his memorial service and funeral.
More than eight thousand officers from across North America were in Ottawa for his funeral.
A formal private memorial service is planned for this afternoon.
