Police arrest woman in “helpful” scam

A 56 year old Ottawa woman is facing more than three dozen charges after a number of incidents of theft in the Orleans area.
Police had warned people about a woman who was slashing tires in parking lots then offering to help when the driver returned to the car. She would then distract the person, usually a woman, and steal their purse.
Police made the arrest yesterday as the woman tried to pull the same scheme in an east end parking lot.
56 year old Louise Menard is charged with theft, mischief and possession of stolen property in connection with 18 incidents.
