Ottawa Police are denying allegations they mistreated 27-year-old Stacy Bonds while she was in custody two years ago.
The service filed its statement of defense Monday to the million dollar lawsuit.
Bonds filed the suit against Ottawa Police, Chief Vern White and several officers.
She is suing for $1.2 million in damages for claimed breaches of her charter rights, negligence and malicious prosecution.
Lawyers instead claim Bonds was drunk and was drinking alcohol in public when she was arrested.
They say her treatment in the cellblocks was a result of her resisting and that the officer’s response was part of the “standard use of force model.”.
The surveillance video feed shows her being held to the floor while her shirt and bra are cut off with scissors.
Provincial Police have been called in to review other cellblock video and have moved to install audio recorders in certain areas of the cellblock since the since bonds filed her lawsuit in December.
