Dog, cat rescued from apartment fire

Ottawa Firefighters saved a cat and dog from an apartment fire at 2080 Russell Road Tuesday after their owner went out and left a pot cooking on the kitchen stove.
Firefighters managed to contain the fire to the unit’s kitchen but there was significant smoke damage.
They broke into the apartment’s bedroom where they found the dog who was not in serious condition but discovered the cat unresponsive on the living room couch.
A special unit was used to resuscitate the cat.
The owner returned and took both pets to the vet to have them checked out.
The apartment had an estimated $30,000 in damage.
