Local ATU elects new leader.

The Amalgamated Transit Union local 2-7-9 has a new president.

Gary Queale was elected on Friday.

Queale has worked in the transit industry for more than three decades and is currently a dispatcher at the Pinecrest garage.

He replaces Andre Cornellier, who died in January after a lengthy battle with kidney cancer. Union vice-president Mike Aldrich has been acting as president.

His term as president ends in mid-2012.

Queale lost the 2009 vote to Cornellier by 13 votes.
