Fire causes $300-thousand dollars damage

40 firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire at a home in the Carleton Heights area of Ottawa just after 4:15 this morning. A couple and their 2 preteen children were asleep when the fire broke out.
They awoke to the sound of breaking glass and the smoke alarm. They immediately evacuated the home and called 911. The occupants were unharmed and firefighters were able to save their small dog.
It is believed that the fire broke out on the porch and spread to the interior of the house. Total damage is estimated at 300 thousand dollars and the cause is under investigation.
