Rainfall warning issued; rain-snow mix expected this weekend

A major storm is heading for the capital, and it’s bringing a chance of freezing rain, a bit of snow, and a whole lot of rain.
A rainfall warning has been issued by Environment Canada for all of Southern and Eastern Ontario. In the Ottawa area, the system will start as rain, but there will be a switch over to snow.
“The total amounts of snow are not really that much; anywhere from two, to four to five centimetres,” said Richard Zurawski, 1310News meteorologist.
“The big thing to worry about is the amount of rain that’s coming down, and it will be very heavy at times. It’s a deep, rapidly-developing low pressure system.”
South Nation Conservation is warning that rivers and streams are expected to rise over the next few days. The conservation authority warns parents to keep children away from waterways.
The rain and snow is expected to be the main weather-maker right through Sunday, but everything should clear up before the commute on Monday morning.
