Police identify man found dead in Cornwall apartment

CORNWALL, Ont. – Cornwall police have identified a man found dead in his home Friday afternoon.
Emergency crews found Maurice Champagne, 51, inside an apartment on First Street East in Cornwall around 3:30 p.m.
They were responding to a 911 call about black smoke coming from the building.
The fire was already out when firefighters arrived.
Champagne was found with his dog, who was also dead.
Police are looking into what caused their deaths.
