The Fraser Institute is out with its controversial ranking of the province’s elementary schools and according to a report in the Ottawa Sun, Ottawa is home to both the top and bottom schools on the list.
Ecole Elementaire Catholique Terre-des-jeunes in Nepean took the top spot with a perfect score of ten and Assumption Elementary in Vanier was at the bottom of the list with a score of zero.
The institute says their report has become a valuable resource for parents choosing where to send their kids to school.
Critics of the report say that the scores focus too much on the results of standardized testing and the institute’s interpretation of other criteria. They say the scores don’t take into account issues that may affect individual schools such as the number of students who are recent immigrants.
