Multiple Sclerosis walk attracts over 1,300 participants

Its a very special anniversary for the Multiple Sclerosis Society as they celebrate 20 years. It may have been a wet day to go for a 5K walk, but that didn’t stop the 1,300 people from participating in the trip around the Ottawa River Parkway.
The MS walks are one of the most recognized in the nation raising over $13 million last year and $366 000 in Ottawa alone.
To commemorate the 20th anniversary over 300 balloons were released over Tunny’s Pasture.
Laurel Mackenzie, the Executive Director of the Ottawa Chapter MS Society tells 1310News that despite the weather it didn’t rain on their parade.
” We were looking for 1,500 people to join us this morning, our hunch is 1,300. but donations are up a bit from this time last year,” explains Laurel.
Participants could partake in the shorter 2.5K walk or the 5K walk.
Laurel says that Ottawa’s MS branch was one of the first established, and is the 2nd largest chapter in Canada.
