The son of former Newfoundland Premier Brian Tobin has pleaded guilty to impaired driving causing death in relation to an incident that killed his friend Alex Zolpis, 24.
John (Jack) Tobin, 24, was charged with impaired driving causing death and dangerous driving causing death.
The accident happened early in the morning of Christmas Eve, 2011 on the top floor of a parking garage in the Byward Market.
Zolpis was pinned underneath a Dodge Ram truck and died minutes after emergency crews arrived on scene.
Jack Tobin had been behind the wheel.
He entered his guilty plea this morning with his parents by his side.
The Citizen reported Tobin’s lawyer Norm Boxall admitted in a brief hearing Tuesday that Tobin was over the legal blood-alcohol level at the time of the incident.
Other charges of dangerous driving and impaired driving have been dropped.
Sentencing for Tobin will begin Aug. 4.
