Canucks spirit everywhere

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Just in time for Game 1, the mayors of Vancouver and Boston have agreed on a little wager, over the outcome of the Stanley Cup finals.
It includes the losing city raising the winning team’s flag at city hall, and on that note, mayor Gregor Robertson says Boston’s Thomas Menino ‘blinked.’
“I tried to get Mayor Menino to agree to do that in a green lycra body suit, but he is not that committed to his Boston Bruins.”
Robertson is also offering smoked salmon and local beer in the wager, while Boston is countering with lobster and its own local micro-brewed goodness.
A donation will also be made to the winning mayor’s choice of charities.
Tory MPs on the Canucks bandwagon
Fresh out of their first meeting as a governing party in Ottawa, BC Tory MPs donned the blue, green and white for the cameras and Heritage Minister James Moore is pumped.
“I think the Canucks are in a great position to win the Cup. They stay healthy. Bobby Lu stands on his head. Ryan Kesler keeps making the checks, the twins keep doing what they need to do. I think the Canucks will bring the Cup home and make all Canadians very proud.”
Moore calls the Canucks “Canada’s team.”
Dr. Sport’s prediction
Dr. Sport is predicting a close Stanley Cup series between the Canucks and Bruins.
“I think that the Canucks are ready finally, after all this time, to take it all, but I am not saying that it is going to be easy.”
Greg Douglas has followed the team since the very beginning.
“I think it’s going to be an excellent series. I think it’s going to be an epic series, and hopefully Vancouver will come out on top,” says Douglas.
He’s predicting the Canucks will win the series in seven games.
The Towel Power
A Canucks fan is hoping to whip up some towel power throughout the Stanley Cup playoffs in bars throughout the city.
Paul Abbott says he’s trying to get all the patrons at the Princeton Pub on Powell to wave the white towel tonight.
“We’re going to issue a challenge to every other sports bar in the city to see if they can do the same, see which is the best Canucks bar in the city. So the idea is hopefully it spreads and maybe it will hit the street too, if it gets popular enough.”
He says fans at the Princeton will get a free white towel to wave tonight.
