Ride for Dad rumbles through the Valley

A low rumble made its way across Ottawa and the Valley as bikes, chrome and leather all came together for the 11th annual Ride for Dad.
The ride is held every year in an effort to raise awareness in the battle against prostate cancer, a curable cancer that has a 90 per cent success rate if caught early enough.
Ride organizer Jim Summers tells 1310News, the ride has really caught on since it started 11 years ago.
“The ride originated in Ottawa in 2000 with 80 bikes and it’s grown to 29 cities across the country and there will be probably over 12,000 participants this year and nationally we’ve raised over $7 million,” said Summers.
There were 2,250 bikes registered in this year’s ride. It brought in around $400,000 in pledges this year. The event has raised about $2.2 million in Ottawa since it first began.
The ride included stops in Almonte, Carleton Place and Smiths Falls, before it wrapped up at Rideau-Carleton Raceway.
