Bystander killed in Montreal shooting

Quebec Provincial Police are investigating the early Tuesday morning shooting by Montreal City Police that resulted in the death of two men, one of whom was an innocent byustander.

Mario Hamel, a 40-year-old homeless man, was tossing garbage bags around in a downtown area and was shot when he confronted the officers with a knife.

During the altercation a 36-year-old man, riding his bicycle to work, was also shot.  He was transported to the hospital but later died of his wounds.

An investigation is ongoing.
