It’s going to take one more game to settle the Stanley Cup.
The Boston Bruins beat the Canucks 5-2 last night, chasing goaltender Roberto Luongo from Vancouver’s net with three goals in the first ten minutes of Game 6.
That win ties the series up 3-3, forcing the deciding game for the NHL’s championship.
Game 7 will be in Vancouver on Wednesday.
Canucks forward Mason Raymond was taken to a hospital last night after he was injured during the first shift of Game 6.
Raymond was hurt 20 seconds into the game when he got tangled up awkwardly with Boston defenceman Johnny Boychuk.
Raymond was bent at the waist with Boychuk’s stick between his legs when Boychuk ran him backward into the boards near Boston’s net.
Raymond stayed face down on the ice for several minutes before his teammates helped him off.
No penalty was called on the play.
And the effect of the Cup Final hasn’t been lost on restaurants and bars in downtown Vancouver who have been raking in the cash during the Canucks’ run, but the party isn’t coming cheap for the city.
Vancouver will pay more than $1 million for showing the games on outdoor screens and for paying extra for police to protect their safety.
Granville Island Brewing says beer sales went up about 20 per cent during the playoff’s first round. Sales had jumped by 40 to 45 per cent by the beginning of the Stanley Cup final.
The British Columbia Restaurant and Foodservices Association says Canucks fans may be spending up to $2 million every game.
Meanwhile, the City of Vancouver is facing more than $1.3 million in bills for policing and entertainment costs for downtown celebration sites.
The relatively incident-free parties have seen people of all ages coming out, but police are becoming concerned.
Police originally said they wouldn’t close downtown liquor stores early, but they did just that for last night’s Game 6.
