Royal Couple encounters first protests in Montreal

When Prince William and Kate arrived in Montreal, the royals were given a loud, raucous reminder that not everyone in Canada likes the monarchy.
They faced noisy protesters twice — at St. Justine’s children’s hospital and Quebec’s tourism and hotel institute downtown.
That’s where Guy Ebacher proudly waved a poster of Princess Diana which was shaped in the form of a heart. He had trouble understanding why the separatists were protesting the visit of the royal couple.
A line of riot police kept watch on the street outside the hotel institute, but the crowd quickly dispersed once the royal couple went inside.
