Shane O’Brien returns to the Northwest Division

DENVER, CO (NEWS1130) – Former Canucks defenceman Shane O’Brien has signed a one-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche.
O’Brien appeared in 80 games for the Nashville Predators last season. He scored two goals, added seven assists, and racked up 83 penalty minutes. His 80 games matched his career high set in 2006-07.
The Avs will be the fifth team O’Brien has played for in 379 career NHL games. He was originally taken in the eighth round of the 2003 Entry Draft by Anaheim. He would be traded to Tampa Bay at the trade deadline in February 2007.
O’Brien played two seasons in Vancouver before being placed on waivers in October of 2010. He was known mostly for his antics away from the ice, including showing up late for a practice and sitting out the next three games for disciplinary reasons.
