Protests planned over Muslim prayers in school cafeteria

School may be out for summer – but several faith-based groups are planning to park outside Toronto’s district school board headquarters today over prayer in school!

The Jewish Defence League of Canada, the Canadian Hindu Advocacy and the Christian Heritage group are opposed to a decision to allow 300 Muslim students to pray in the school cafeteria.

Valley Park Middle School has been allowing the prayer sessions for the last three years – but it attracted media attention after the Hindu advocacy called for it to end.  The protesting groups say the school board is showing favouritism to the Islamic faith by sanctioning the prayer services during school hours.
