Cool and wet conditions are helping firefighters get control of the forest fires threatening communities in remote northwestern Ontario. Fire information officer Owen Vaughan says more than 110 fires are burning across the region.
About 36-hundred people have been evacuated from 11 First Nations, with Cat Lake, Keewaywin, Koocheching and Sandy Lake fully evacuated. All planned evacuations are completed and no additional airlifts are expected. Officials are now working on plans to return evacuated First Nation residents to their communities when the timing is right.
