153 members of a First Nation have returned home as crews continue to battle a rash of forest fires that have left thousands of Northwestern Ontario residents displaced.
Deputy Minister of Community Safety Ian Davidson says members of the Mishkeegogamang First Nation, which is accessible by road, have returned home by bus.
“There was some discussion, and they made the decision, ultimately, to return themselves, but we were reasonably satisfied that it was safe to do so,” he said.
There are still nearly 3500 evacuees still waiting for the smoke to clear so that they may return home.
