Jack Tobin to be sentenced Aug. 31

OTTAWA – The son of former Newfoundland premier Brian Tobin will be sentenced Aug. 31 for impaired driving causing death.

The date was set as Jack Tobin’s sentencing hearing wrapped up this morning.

Tobin pleaded guilty in May after his close friend died in an Ottawa parking garage on Christmas Eve.

Alex Zolpis was pinned under a pick-up truck during parking-lot shenanigans.

Prosecutors are seeking a five-year prison sentence and a 10-year driving ban while the defence has suggested a sentence of between 18 and 30 months.
