Man behind vicious assault sentenced

An Ottawa man was handed down a four year prison sentence Thursday for savagely attacking his ex-girlfriend back in may in what has been described as a “horror show.”
Thirty-year-old Dakota “Cody” Atkinson and his girlfriend had been broken up for a week, but were still talking when he invited her to his home.
It was there that he made a “jack-oh-lantern” of her face.
Atkinson then kept her captive in his home for two days.
She told police she couldn’t believe she made it out alive.
The crown prosecutor said it was one of the most violent ways someone could hurt another, adding that Atkinson had a history of battering women including his own mother.
Atkinson was charged with aggravated assault and forcible confinement.
