Egypt withdrawing ambassador from Isreal

CAIRO — The Egyptian Cabinet says it’s withdrawing its ambassador from Israel over the shooting deaths of five Egyptian security forces.

They were killed in fighting after an ambush targeting Israelis near the border between the two countries. Egypt is accusing Israel  of breaching the 1979 peace treaty between the two countries. The Cabinet statement issued Saturday said the ambassador will be withdrawn until Israel investigates the deaths of the five Egyptians.

Egypt’s official news agency earlier blamed the Israelis for shooting the five while chasing militants who killed eight Israelis in Thursday’s ambush across the border in southern Israel.  Israeli officials did not immediately comment on Egypt’s decision, although the military has promised to investigate the shootings.
