Ottawa misses Super Ex

For this first time in 122 years the Super Ex won’t be at Lansdowne Park because of the redevelopment project.

Ottawa’s Central Canadian Exhibition has been running every year since 1888, except for a break during both World Wars.

That streak was broken this year because there was no place to host the event.

With Lansdowne tied up with redevelopment plans, the exhibition had to be cancelled.

Many loyal fans of the exhibition are heading to other midways, like the one at the Fat Cats Stadium, to get their fix of Summer fun.

Caroline said she has gone to the Super Ex every year since she was a little girl.

“We go every year. We take the whole family and there’s 19 of us now. So we miss it,” she said.

Caroline said she misses the displays and shows at the Super Ex.

“Well I miss the cattle castle, I miss all the inside exhibitions and all those things,” she said.

Brenda said she will miss the shows at the Super Ex.

“The agricultural shows. They used to have the birds and all the different things,” she said.

Brenda said she’ll also miss looking at the products for sale because she doesn’t like rides very much.

Her husband Henry said he doesn’t think the midway at the Fat Cats stadium is spectacular but said there’s not many options.

“I’m hoping it’s going to bridge the gap between what was here before and what’s here now,” he said.”It’s better than nothing, that’s for sure!”

Many people at the midway said they hope the Super Ex. will be in town next Summer.
