Air Canada adding $25 fee for first bag checked on flights to the U.S.

MONTREAL — Air Canada is going to start charging economy passengers a fee for the first checked bag on flights to the United States.
The country’s largest carrier informed passengers on its website that it will charge 25-dollars for the first checked bag for flights starting October 11th.
It’s also increasing the fee for a checked second bag to 35-dollars — up five dollars.
The first bag is still free on domestic flights but a 20-dollar fee applies for a second bag.
There is no charge for a first checked bag on international routes but a second bag can cost you up to 70-dollars.
Air Canada says the change for flights to the U-S brings it in line with the baggage policies of other major carriers.
Most American carriers charge similar fees on flights to Canada.
There is no fee for the first checked bag on WestJet and Porter Airlines flights to the U-S and both say they have no plans to change their policies.
