City may name archives after Bartleman

Looks like the city may have someone to name our new archives building after. A city committee is suggesting former Ontario Lieutenant Governor James Bartleman get the honour.
The mayor also backs the idea. Bartleman once lived in Ottawa. He was Ontario’s first aboriginal Lieutenant Governor and worked hard to promote literacy among First Nations youth.
Controversy erupted earlier this year when Mayor Watson wanted to name the building after former mayor Charlotte Whitten.
The Jewish community protested because of anti-semitic views Whitton is said to have had. A conservative think tank in town disputes those allegations and still wants the building named after her.
