Ottawa remembers 9/11/01

More than 1000 Ottawa residents remembered the events of September 11, 2001 by attending an outdoor concert on the terrace of the National Arts Centre.
The Ottawa Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys started the performance at 8:46, marking the exact time the first plane crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Centre in New York City.
The NAC Orchestra then took over in front of the crowd, many of whom sat with bowed heads, wiping away tears as they listened to the music.
One musician performing today told 1310News she thought it was the perfect way to mark the tenth anniversary.
“I think it’s unique, sensitive, they’ve thought out the program beautifully. The pieces, you’ll see, they start sad and they end with hope. They end in major keys with hope and that’s exactly what we are looking for.”
Speakers were set up so the music could be heard from the street, giving more people the chance to reflect on the events of the day.
At 11 o’clock, firefighters from across the country gathered on Parliament Hill to pay tribute to all Canadian firefighters who have died on the job. And while that was the main focus of that ceremony, they did pause to pay their respects to the firefighters who were among the first responders in New York City the day of the attacks.
