Attempted murder amid dozens of charges laid in Joyceville prison assault

KINGSTON, Ont. – Provincial police have laid almost 150 charges that include attempted murder after investigating an assault at Joyceville Institution, near Kingston, Ont.

Police said today they have arrested 27 inmates in connection with the April 21 attack.

The assault sent seven men to hospital in Kingston, including a 24-year-old who remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Eleven of the accused face attempted murder charges.

Other charges include assault and weapons offences, and wearing a disguise.

All of those charged are due in court Dec. 7.
