23-year-old Ottawa man charged with child luring and extortion

Police are asking more victims to come forward after laying several charges in a child luring investigation.

Officials said in November, a report was made to them of a minor being exploited by a man located in the nation’s capital. This prompted Ottawa police to open a case.

On Dec. 4, officers from the internet child exploitation (ICE) unit laid several offences against Yunseong Kim, also known as Andy Kim. Charges include making, selling and possessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material, child luring and extortion.

Officers said that Kim used the following usernames online:

  • X: yolotake01 and yolotake02
  • Discord: just2014
  • Instagram: justyou0417
  • PayPal: yolotake

Police said they believe there could be more victims and are asking people to reach out with more information.

The press release from officers noted that the the Korean National Police and the RCMP National Child Exploitation Crime Centre aided the investigation.

Police expand unit with furry officer

The newest recruit to the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) is a two-year-old black Labrador Retriever with a unique ability that will aid the force in investigating child exploitation cases.

Piper is not a typical police dog, officials said in a press release. She has “mastered” the ability to detect the scent of electronic devices, like hard drives, USB sticks, SD cards and AirTags. This will help the force’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit in searches if suspects attempt to hide evidence.

For four months, Piper trained to detect the scent of electronic devices in real-world scenarios like apartments, abandoned hotels, vehicles and outdoor areas.

She is the first of her kind in OPS, but not the first in Canada. That honour goes to Harley, a yellow lab who joined Peel Regional Police in 2023.

Piper is a new recruit to the Ottawa police and is helping the ICE unit. (OPS)
