Couponing tips for Canadians

The popular TLC series “Extreme Couponing” premieres Wednesday night, but its not just Americans who can capitalize from coupons, Canadians can too.

Elyse Kenzora grew up in Ottawa and tells 1310News she has been couponing for years, a hobby she picked up from her grandma.

“It is an addiction, but I do love saving the money,” she says. “I love to travel and the more I save the more I get to spend on travelling.”

The savvy shopper says the Internet is her go-to place for coupons. With entire websites dedicated to coupons, its not hard to find a deal.

Facebook, websaver.ca, save.ca and brandsaver.ca are some of Kenzora’s favourites, but she gets coupons from other places as well.

“I get coupons from all over the place,” she says. “From the backs of cereal boxes, chicken boxes, like I get them from all over.”

For anyone looking to start, Kenzora says organization is key.

“I have a binder and I organize them by section and then each week I flyer shop and then find out which ones I have coupons for,” she says.

About three hours of the young women’s week is dedicated to couponing, but each trip through the cash is worth it.

“I think the most I’ve ever saved is about $250,” she says. “My bill came to maybe $12 or something, that’s the best one I’ve ever had.”
