OTTAWA – Arts and culture on the menu all weekend long throughout the capital and in cities and towns across Canada as we all celebrate Culture Days.
There are over 140 events on Friday through Sunday in Ottawa to mark this second annual celebration.
Aubrey Reeves, the Ontario manager for Culture Days, told 1310News this nationwide event is a chance to try something new.
“See if you like it and maybe get inspired to really discover your own creativity,” she said.
Here in Ottawa you can try a wide variety of art-forms including story telling at a Campfire Story Telling Evening at the Billings Estate.
At the NAC you can take in dance classes and hip hop demos as well as guided art tours, an interactive stage lighting exhibit and more.
On Sunday at noon visitors can tour the newly built Centrepointe Theatre seeing all the behind the scenes work audiences normally wouldn’t get to experience before sitting in on an open rehearsal of Hairspray.
And if you want to broaden your own talents you can take workshops in everything from button making to hand-built pottery, to glassblowing and making stained glass.
It’s all part of a movement to make art more exciting, accessible and to keep promoting a vibrant arts and cultural sector because it contributes directly to a healthy and stable society.
