Man beaten and robbed after trying to break up fight

A good Samaritan is recovering after being beaten for trying to break up a fight.
Staff Sgt Brad Hampson told 1310News, the 28-year-old victim was walking in the Byward Market around 3 a.m. Saturday when he saw several men assaulting another man in a parking lot near Cumberland and George Streets.
“He actually intervened and as a result of the intervention, he was attacked and assaulted, basically into unconsciousness, and then was subsequently robbed,” he said.
The man was rushed to the Civic Campus of the Ottawa Hospital, where he was treated for serious, but non life-threatening head injuries.
Kendji Poto, 18; Steve Peraza-Ruis, 27; Ramsey Chaar, 22; Pierre-Alain Basiala, 19; and Dominik Montgiraud, 19 have all been charged with aggravated assault.
Montgiraud has also been charged with robbery.
Police are asking anyone with information to call them or Crime Stoppers.
