OTTAWA – After once being dubbed one of the worst roads in Ontario, Limebank Road in the city’s south end has gone from worst class to first class thanks to a $48 million dollar investment from the City.
Mayor Jim Watson and Councillor Steve Desroches announced the official completion of The Limebank Road Widening Project Monday morning.
“I know this project was a priority for the residents in South Ottawa and I am please to see this major city infrastructure project come to its conclusion,” says Desroches.
Desroches says the road was one of the reasons he decided to run for council in the first place. He says its come a long way from what it was before.
“It was a rural road carrying an urban load of traffic,” he says. “It was a road that was two lanes, had rural ditching, had very little lighting, and was crumbling.”
Now, the road has two lanes in each direction, a large median and designated cycling lanes.
“The City of Ottawa continues to invest in important infrastructure projects to meet the demands of our growing population,” says Mayor Jim Watson. “I am proud of the improvements this project brings to the South Ottawa community.”
