Thirteen Ottawa drivers charged in Ottawa’s STEP program in September

September was an expensive month for 13 Ottawa drivers charged with failing to stop for a school bus with its lights flashing.

School bus stops and tailgating were the focus of last month’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program or STEP, by Ottawa Police, Public Works and Ottawa Public Health.

Police issued 78 tailgating tickets over the course of the month.

For the 13 drivers caught not stopping for a school bus, penalties include fines ranging from $400 to $2,000 dollars and six demerit points for a first offence.

A second offence means a fine between $1,000 and $4,000 thousand dollars, six demerit points and a possible jail sentence of up to six months.
