Wakefield to keep steam train

Wakefield’s historic steam train is staying put.

A local train group has matched the half a million dollar offer from an outside buyer in order to keep the train in Wakefield.

Last week, a buyer from Sept-Iles, Quebec offered $550,000 for the train, which would be moved to eastern Quebec.  That would have had a huge impact on Wakefield’s local economy, which relies on the $8 million the train brings in every year.

The train’s board of governors still has to raise money to fix the tracks, which were washed out by heavy rains this past June.
