Environment Minister dodges Kyoto questions

As the two-week UN climate change conference begins in South Africa, Canada’s environment minister isn’t saying whether the federal government will pull out of the Kyoto Accord.
But he doesn’t sound like a fan.
“Our government believes that the previous Liberal government signing on to Kyoto was one of the biggest blunders they made,” he said.
He adds Kyoto is the past and the commitments signed by his government in Copenhagen and Cancun are the future.
Interim Liberal leader Bob Rae is upset Canada would back away from the accord.
“This makes Canada look like an international outlaw and I don’t think Canada should be looking like an international outlaw,” he said.
Kent hopes the talks in South Africa will lead to a new agreement with countries like China and the United States signing on to lower their emissions.
