Arson unit investigates Metcalfe blaze

Ottawa’s arson unit is investigating a fire which completely destroyed a bungalow in Metcalfe.
Witnesses tell fire officials that people were seen near the house shortly before the house went up in flames.
Firefighters arrived on scene around 8:45 p.m. Saturday, to find the house completely engulfed in flames.
No one was home at 2517 Scrivens Road, near Bank Street and Snake Island Road.
Samer Mehanna who shares the house with his mother and a friend said he was lucky he was in Montreal at the time of the fire.
It took firefighters a few hours to douse the flames.
Damage is estimated at $500,000, and the cause has yet to be determined.
