“Distraction” robbers hit Centretown convenience store

OTTAWA – Ottawa police are investigating what they are calling a “distraction” robbery.
It occurred on Nov. 16 at Abbas Grocery on Bell Street in Centretown.
Mike Abbas who co-owns the convenience store with his brother said a group of six women and two men made off with $2,000 worth of goods.
A thief allegedly distracted Abbas as well as security guards, while three women made their way to the back of the store and cut the locks off of the safe.
He said they were criss-crossing and circling within the store, and it was very distracting.
Abbas wasn’t aware of how much was stolen until the thieves exited the store.
Police are investigating.
