OTTAWA – Ottawa police need the public’s help in locating their list of Ottawa’s Most Wanted robbery suspects.
The “Hall of Shame” is a new initiative they hope will help track them down.
It consists of a series of ‘most wanted posters’ posters on its website.
The robbery squad selected seven particularly violent or armed suspects and those wanted in multiple robberies. The majority of the accused has targeted banks, and date back to 2009.
Robbery unit Staff Sgt. Michael Haarbosch said the online photo wall, will make it available to those who don’t have access to print.
The “Robbery Unit’s Most Wanted” was established online in the fall. The Ottawa Sun featured wanted criminals in the summer, but police wanted to expand to a wider audience.
With the improvement of digital technology, police regularly use surveillance cameras to capture the images.
The robbery unit will re-examine this new initiative come January, to see if it is helping to catch criminals.
Police are also using their website to feature suspects in other crimes, including murder and sexual assault cases and profiling missing persons.
