Riding the temperature rollercoaster

OTTAWA, On. – The calendar may say January, but the thermometer is telling a different story – at least for now.
We’ve been bouncing between bitter cold and milder temperatures, for example we went from -22 last week to +1 on Tuesday.
Meantime, this yo-yo weather means that people need to be prepared whatever the forecast.
This man told 1310News the backseat of his car looks more like a bedroom closet these days. “I’ve got three coats in my car right now,” he said.
He went on to say “(Also) an extra pair of boots. You never know.”
And Bill is not the only one trying to cover all his bases.
While John said, “I find when it’s wet like this… Its hard to figure out (which) boots [to wear.”
“I always have a pair of pajamas in my bag,” Howie said. “Just in case its too cold…underneath the jeans.”
The reason for the up-and-down temperatures is because we are not getting enough Arctic air to put us in a deep freeze, and keep us there.
“That cold arctic air is still bottled far to the north. Normally at this time the jet stream is further south allowing that colder arctic air to reach us,” said 1310News meteorologist, Jill Taylor.
Jill added temperatures will settle down to where they should be this time of year – eventually.
And of course – she is reminding people in the capital there is still plenty of winter to come, so skaters and skiers will likely be able to get into their favourite hobby, like skating – soon.
