MONTREAL – A Quebec doctor who stabbed his two children to death, then avoided a murder conviction, is now seeking his freedom from a psychiatric hospital.
Guy Turcotte is testifying today before a mental health review board at the institution where he’s housed.
A jury found Turcotte not criminally responsible for killing his children because he was too distraught over the breakup of his marriage and said he didn’t remember committing the act.
Turcotte now testifies he’d like to eventually practise cardiology and have a relationship again.
But Turcotte’s ex-wife, Isabelle Gaston, isn’t convinced he is being sincere and says she is scared he will try to kill her.
Gaston choked up as she told reporters outside the psychiatric institution she has trouble making it through the night.
