Sens look to down the Jets

OTTAWA – Monday night looks to be a lopsided battle at Scotiabank Place between the surging Ottawa Senators and the reeling Winnipeg Jets. The Sens are in search of their fifth straight win, while the Jets are hoping to avoid their fourth loss in a row.
Ottawa has won the two previous games between these two teams, a 4-1 game in the capital on October 20th, and a 6-4 meeting in Winnipeg on November 29th.
Sens goalie Craig Anderson was named the NHL’s first star for last week after going 3-0-0 with a shutout. He will be back between the pipes for Monday’s game. Anderson is 7-1-2 in 11 career games against the Jets/Thrashers. He is also 8-0-1 in his last nine games.
Jason Spezza could also have been in the running for that first star honour, with his four goals in the last three games.
For the Jets, Chris Mason was the first goalie off the ice at the game day skate, and should get the start Monday night. He is 5-3-1 on the season, and 4-1-0 in his last five starts–the loss came on January 5th, 4-0 to the Maple Leafs.
Jets leading scorer Blake Wheeler took a puck off the throat on Saturday, and will not be in a line-up.
Coach Claude Noel says Wheeler is day-to-day, and is hoping for his return on Thursday.
Kyle Turris now has two goals and nine points in 13 games with the Senators. The team has a 10-1-2 record over that span. Daniel Alfredsson has five goals and 12 points in those games, playing mostly on the Turris wing.
After the game, the Sens will head straight to Toronto for a battle with the Maple Leafs.
Lastly, Cynthia Knopka, sister of Sens enforcer Zenon, will be singing the national anthem Monday night.
