Queen’s Park Opening

The first session of the 40th provincial parliament at Queen’s Park is expected to be raucous.      The minority Liberal government is dealing with a $16 billion deficit, $250 billion debt, a sluggish economy and slow job creation.      It all adds up to a political storm according to Ian Lee at the Sprott School of Business.    “The report from Don Drummond is political and financial dynamite”.        He tells 1310News that it will be a difficult session for the Liberals with only a minority in the legislature.        The Grits have 53 seats, PC’S 37 and 17 for the New Democrats.

Lee expects the Drummond report will be the focus of both sides of the aisle at Queen’s Park.      Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty has already confirmed the Liberals won’t raise taxes to slay the deficit nor will all recommendations of the Drummond report be implemented.
