Chateau Laurier Centennial

The Fairmont Chateau Laurier is counting down 100 days to it’s 100th anniversary on June 1, 2012.       The venerable hotel in downtown Ottawa is looking for mementoes from previous guests to features in an exhibit that looks back at the history of the hotel.      Deneen Perrin of the Chateau Laurier tells 1310News, “theyre real curious to see what’s going to be unveiled”.         She jokes that a woman from Arnprior will be coming with a set of chairs from the hotel.   “There used to be various ways to get something like this.   The hotel actually used to have garage sales”.

Perrin says the oldest items come from when the hotel was owned by the Grand Trunk hotel.     They’ve received an old brass room key dating back to 1912.     This Sunday will be an Amnesty day for anyone wanting to bring back any items that may have found their way outside the hotel…no questions asked.  Perrin also says if people want to retain those items, they will feature them in the exhibit and then return them.
